I hope you like my new website, designed by fellow Tanguero Rob de Jong. We want to make it easy for you to find all the information about my classes, practicas, milongas and visiting teachers. You'll find a monthly calendar of activities, maps for each location, photos and videos.
We've got lots of exciting events coming in 2012. In addition to my Hollywood and Alhambra classes, I'm teaching a new beginner's class in Downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday evenings! DTLA is becoming a go-to destination for art, culture and dining. I'm really excited to be the first person to offer weekly dance classes right in the heart of the downtown renaissance. I'll be teaching at The Main Barre at Main and Sixth St. Click on the CLASSES page for all the details and be sure to tell your friends who live or work downtown!
MARDI GRAS MILONGA &TANGO MÍO! February 21st come join us and celebrate FAT TUESDAY! has lots of exciting things coming up. Special guest performers LAILA & LEANDRO OLIVER from the Tango x 2 Company. PLUS we'll have LIVE MUSIC on the by LOS ANGELES DEL TANGO ENSEMBLE, including our own local tangueros Scott Haller (cello), Francis Soriano (keyboard) and Jeff White (guitar). They are joined by Keiko Cadby (violin), Mary Ann Sereth (bass), Anna Cummings (violin) and Pablo Goldstein (accordion and flute). This terrific LOCAL tango ensemble plays very danceable, classic tangos, milongas and valses.
Our next MILONGA LOS AMIGOS is on Friday, February 24th at The Granada. We're going to start featuring our own local tangueros. We've got some great dancers who come to our milongas and we'll have a different couple do one number for us every month. Come out and support your tango friends. Don't miss the fun!
Our first visiting maestros of 2012 will be OSCAR CASAS & ANA MIGUEL, February 28 - March 13th. Oscar and Ana were with us last October and they were so popular we've invited them for a two-week visit. You'll love their classes and their performances. Mark your calendars now! OSCAR CASAS & ANA MIGUEL!
February 28 - March 13, 2012 Performances: MILONGA LOS AMIGOS IN PASADENA on Saturday, March 10th Oscar & Ana wowed Los Angeles last year! They are teachers who LOVE teaching. They are total professionals as well as super-nice people. Their performances are spontaneous and completely improvised. They embody the sheer joy of dancing tango with connection and musicality. These two are PURE FUN! Book your private lessons NOW--they will fill up.
Oscar teaches regular classes at El Beso in Buenos Aires when he is not traveling the world to teach and perform. He was born in Parque Patricios, a well-known tango barrio in Buenos Aires. His parents were avid tango dancers, and in the 1950s and '60s they organized three different milongas per week, which regularly drew in 400-500 dancers. He was very much influenced by his father, both by osmosis and discussion. Oscar has a distinct style both in his dance and his teaching. He is very milonguero, and is respected by the old guard in the milongas of BA. He is also extremely popular with young tangueros. He teaches with energy and humor, emphasizing concepts, specializing in improvisation, always interpreting the music and respecting the character of the different orchestras. Oscar is especially interested in the dynamics and cadencia of the dance. Everything he teaches is applicable to crowded milongas. Ana started teaching with the famous Argentine instructor and performer Pocho Pizarro. From 2005 to 2008, she performed in the show “Bacanazo” which was held in the Empire Theatre and the Roman Theatre in BA and she also performed as part of the show at Esquina Carlos Gardel from 2006 to 2010 in BA. She is a great teacher in her own right, meticulous and detailed in her explanations. She follows with energy, dynamics and creativity.
